The Palworld technology tree, and what to unlock first

Updated Verified for Palworld 1.0.3

Palworld's technology tree runs 39+ tiers and uses two currencies: Technology Points for ordinary blueprints and Ancient Technology Points for the golden ones. Entries cost 0 to 5 points, some need a specific Tower Boss or Research first, and nothing can be refunded.

🔑
The 5-second version

Tech Points: 6 per level, 1 per fast travel point, plus Technical Manuals. Ancient Points: first-kill only, 1 per Alpha and 5 per Tower Boss. No respec, so spend Ancient points on the Pal Essence Condenser (level 14) before anything cosmetic.

Verified on patch 1.0.3 (12 August 2026).

The published caps are stamped "as of version 0.7.0". Palworld 1.0 added an eighth tower — the Azure Covenant Tower — plus new Alpha Pals and new regions with new fast travel points, so the real 1.0 totals are higher. No source publishes updated caps, so we do not state one.

Full farming detail, including the Lifmunk Effigy myth, lives in the technology points guide.

The spend order that pays back fastest

Levels 1–10: unblock yourself

PriorityUnlockWhy now
1Palbox (tier 2)No base exists without it, and it is your first fast travel point
2Stone Pickaxe and basic toolsGates ore, coal and every material chain
3Primitive Workbench, Sphere WorkbenchSpheres are your entire economy early on
4Campfire and Cooking PotFood is the Sanity and stat backbone for you and your Pals
5Statue of Power (level 9)Enhancements start compounding immediately and are refundable
6Egg Incubator (level 10)Breeding is the strongest power curve in the game

Levels 10–30: build the economy

  • Pal Essence Condenser (14) — the best 2 Ancient Points in the tree; 48 duplicates take a Pal to ★4 and +1 work suitability.
  • Furnaces and Refined Ingots — every weapon and armour tier past this point runs through them.
  • Storage upgrades — Metal Chest and Guild Chest are also base level objectives for bases 2 and 3.
  • Weapon Workbench and the first firearms — the tower bosses are a DPS check.

Levels 30+: the endgame unlocks

  • Summoning Altar (33) — opens raid bosses, which are the main source of Huge Eggs.
  • Ability Glasses (34) — the only way to see the 0–100 potentials you have been breeding for blind.
  • Pal Surgery Table (38) — Implants replace the passive-skill lottery.
  • Coal Quarry (42) — infinite coal without a node cluster, but 10 Ancient Civilization Parts and 100 Coal up front.

Ancient points are the scarce currency

Ordinary Technology Points keep arriving as you level. Ancient points stop when you run out of first-time bosses. Spend them on things that multiply everything else — the Condenser and Ability Glasses — before decorative or convenience unlocks.

Common tech tree mistakes

MistakeConsequence
Expecting a respecThere is none; wasted points stay wasted
Spending Ancient points on convenience structures earlyDelays the Condenser, which multiplies every Pal you own
Ignoring fast travel pointsEach one is a free Technology Point plus a travel shortcut
Waiting to unlock the Statue of PowerEnhancements are refundable, so there is no downside to using it early
Farming Alphas twice for pointsOnly the first kill of each boss awards Ancient points

What to do next

Frequently asked questions

How does the technology tree work in Palworld?
It is a tiered list of blueprints unlocked with two separate currencies: Technology Points for ordinary entries and Ancient Technology Points for the golden ones. Costs run from 0 to 5 points per entry, and some entries also require a specific Tower Boss to be defeated or a Research to be completed before they will unlock.
Can you reset technology points in Palworld?
No. No reference database documents any refund or respec for Technology Points, so every point is permanent. This is different from Pal stat enhancements at the Statue of Power, which can be reset for Gold Coins, and it is why order of unlocks matters.
What should you unlock first in Palworld?
Palbox at tier 2, then the tools and workbenches that gate everything else: Stone Pickaxe, Primitive Workbench, Sphere Workbench and Campfire. After that, target Statue of Power at level 9 and Egg Incubator at level 10 — the two structures that start compounding, one for Pal power and one for breeding.
What is the best use of Ancient Technology Points?
The Pal Essence Condenser at technology level 14 for 2 points. It costs less than most ancient entries and permanently raises every Pal you condense, including +1 to all work suitabilities at maximum rank. Ability Glasses at level 34 for 4 points are the other high-value pick because they are the only way to read potentials.
How many technology points are there in Palworld?
The published totals — 384 from levelling plus 75 from fast travel points for 459 Technology Points, and 72 from Alpha Pals plus 35 from Tower Bosses for 107 Ancient Technology Points — are labelled as of version 0.7.0. Palworld 1.0 added an eighth tower and more Alphas, so treat both figures as stale lower bounds.
Do Lifmunk Effigies give technology points?
No. Lifmunk Effigies are offered at the Statue of Power for Capture Power, which improves catch rates. They have never granted Technology Points of either kind. Technology Points come from player levels, fast travel points and Technical Manuals; Ancient points come from first-time boss kills.
