How Palworld breeding actually works

  • Same species breeds true, and it is checked before every other rule.
  • 79 hard-coded pairings override the formula — that is how variant forms exist. Two of them also depend on which parent is male.
  • Everything else is the breeding rank: floor((rankA + rankB + 1) / 2), then the closest rank among the 184 species the formula is allowed to return.

Breeding targets by route

Every one of the 289 species reaches you through exactly one of these four routes, and which one it is decides how you breed it. The counts are derived from the game's own tables on every build.

RouteWhat it meansSpecies
Made by the breeding rank formulaThe pairing is not hard-coded, so floor((rankA + rankB + 1) / 2) decides it.184
Made by a unique comboA hard-coded pairing of two different species produces it, whatever the ranks say.79
Gender-dependentThe same two parents give a different species depending on which one is male.2
Can only be bred from itselfNo cross-species route exists at all: catch a male and a female.24

Made by a unique combo (79)

One hard-coded recipe each, and nothing else can produce them. See the recipes side by side →

Gender-dependent (2)

The only two species in the game where which parent is male changes the result.
