Potentials, condensing and every way to upgrade a Pal

Updated Verified for Palworld 1.0.3

A Pal's potentials — what everyone calls IVs — are three hidden whole numbers from 0 to 100 for Health, Attack and Defense, worth up to +30% on per-level stat gains. On top of them sit four separate upgrade systems: the Pal Essence Condenser, the Statue of Power, Awakening Crystals and Implants.

🔑
The 5-second version

Potential 0–100 → ×0.3 ÷100 → up to +30% per level. Ability Glasses show the raw number; there are no S/A/B/C grades. Condense to 4 stars with 48 duplicates. Max the Statue of Power with 208 souls. Awakening Crystals raise base stats. Implants rewrite passives.

Verified on patch 1.0.3 (12 August 2026).

Because the bonus applies to level gains, potentials matter more the higher the level you intend to take the Pal to. On a level 10 throwaway worker they are close to irrelevant; on a level 60 raid Pal they are the difference between two builds.

⚠️
There are no letter grades in Palworld

S / A / B / C rankings do not exist in the game. Ability Glasses display the raw 0–100 number and nothing more. Every letter grade you have seen comes from a third-party calculator or save editor applying its own cut-offs — useful shorthand, but not a game mechanic, and different tools disagree.

The glasses are late-tier and cost Ancient Civilization Cores, which is why most players breed blind for a long stretch. Until you have them, judge a breeding line by results rather than by numbers.

Inheriting potentials

The game stores how many Potentials an egg carries over from its parents, in BP_PalGameSetting as Combi_TalentInheritNum. The possible counts are 1, 2, 3: an egg inherits at most 3 of its parents' Potentials, and any not inherited are rolled fresh.

⚠️
We removed the "30% father / 30% mother / 40% fresh" table from this page

That model treats each stat as an independent lottery over three possible sources. The game data describes something different: a roll over how many Potentials transfer (1, 2, 3). The two are not different estimates of the same thing — they are different shapes of mechanic, and no adjustment of the percentages turns one into the other, so we deleted it rather than re-tuning it.

We also deleted the 2.7% figure this page used to derive from it (0.3 × 0.3 × 0.3, the chance of taking all three stats from one parent). It was arithmetic on top of an unsourced premise, and under the count-based mechanic the question it answered does not have that form. As with passives, the per-count weights are absent from the data, so we do not publish odds for a specific stat. How we verify things.

What survives, and is what actually matters at the farm: high-Potential parents are worth keeping, at least one Potential always transfers, and no stat can be locked in the way a passive can. So "perfect IV" breeding remains a volume exercise — hatch many, glass them, keep the top, repeat — and the lever you fully control is egg throughput, not the roll. Low-rarity eggs hatch up to 12× faster than legendary ones, which is the one part of this you can actually engineer.

Topping potentials up with fruit

Power Fruit raises a Pal's Attack potential by +10; its in-game text reads "Precious fruit that is extremely difficult to obtain. Slightly increases a Pal's Attack." It is crafted at an Ancient Workbench from 3 Power Lotus (S), 3 Power Lotus (L), 3 Speed Lotus (L) and gold, and also appears in the Medal, Bounty and Arena shops, mission and treasure-map chests, and rarely from Ancient Relics.

Life Fruit and Stout Fruit are the counterparts for the other two potentials, but the reference we rely on for those values was unreachable when this page was written, so their exact per-use values are omitted rather than guessed.

💡
1.0 made this dramatically cheaper

48 duplicates for four stars, down from 116 before 1.0. Any guide, video or spreadsheet still quoting 116 is out of date. Breeding duplicates in bulk is now a realistic afternoon rather than a project.

The exact percentage each star adds to HP, Attack and Defense is not published by primary sources, so this guide does not state one.

That is 52 souls per enhancement track. Maxing all four tracks on one Pal costs 208 souls: 40 Small, 24 Medium, 24 Large and 120 Giant.

💡
Enhancements are refundable

You can reset a Pal's enhancements for Gold Coins and get the souls back. Refunding a fully maxed Pal costs 848,000 gold, which is steep but means a soul spent on the wrong Pal is never truly lost.

Ranks 1–10 cost 22 souls and give +30%. Ranks 11–20 cost 30 Giant souls for another +30%. If Giant Pal Souls are your bottleneck, stopping at rank 10 on several Pals beats rank 20 on one.

Awakening: the 1.0 endgame layer

StepDetail

Crystal rarityEpic; sells for 12,000 gold
EffectPermanently raises a matching-element Pal's base Health, Attack and Defense; some Partner Skills gain extra benefits

Note what makes Awakening different from everything above: it moves base stats, where potentials only scale level gains and souls apply a percentage.

⚠️
Awakening Starfruit is not part of Awakening

The item formerly called Awakening Starfruit was renamed in 1.0 to plain Starfruit (☆1 to ☆4 plus Ripe). It has no connection to Awakening Pals, Radiant Gems or Awakening Crystals. Guides that link the two are reading a pre-1.0 item name.

📌
What we could not verify

How many crystals a Pal can take, the maximum Awakening level and the per-tier stat numbers are not published by any reference we checked — the standard reference pages for Awakening Crystal, Radiant Gem and Awakening Pal all returned 404 in August 2026. Those figures are deliberately omitted here.

What it does"Surgery can be performed on Pals to change their gender or passive skills"

Implants are key items that add or replace a Pal's passive skills, and — crucially — they are not consumed. One Implant can be used again and again, which turns a single lucky bounty reward into a permanent upgrade for your whole team.

SourceCurrencyExamples stocked
Bounty OfficerBounty currencyImplant: Artisan, Implant: Musclehead, Implant: Burly Body
Arena MerchantBattle TicketsImplant: Serenity, Implant: Infinite Stamina, Implant: Runner

Rarities run from Uncommon up to Legendary — Implant: Diamond Body is an example of the higher end. The same table also performs gender changes using a Pal Reverser, which is consumed.

The gold cost per surgery and the number of passive slots a Pal has are not reliably documented; one reference page shows 50,000 Gold Coin against standard implants, which we report as unconfirmed rather than as fact.

Which system to spend on first

PrioritySystemWhy
1Statue of Power soulsAvailable at Technology 9, immediate percentage gains, and fully refundable
2Condenser to ★448 duplicates is cheap post-1.0 and the +1 work suitability can clear a mining gate
3Breeding for potentialsOnly worth the volume once you have Ability Glasses to check results
4ImplantsReusable, so every one you buy pays off forever — but they need Technology 38
5Awakening CrystalsPure endgame: 50 gems and 10 Holy Water per crystal

The systems stack — a condensed, enhanced, high-potential Pal with implanted passives is several times the Pal you caught. Nothing here is exclusive of anything else.

What to do next

Frequently asked questions

How do IVs work in Palworld?
Every Pal carries three hidden potentials — Health, Attack and Defense — each a whole number from 0 to 100, distributed roughly normally around 50. The bonus is the number multiplied by 0.3 and divided by 100, so 0 gives +0%, 50 gives +15% and 100 gives +30%. That percentage applies to per-level stat gains, not to the Pal's base stats.
Does Palworld have S, A, B, C IV grades?
No. There are no letter grades anywhere in the game. Ability Glasses show the raw 0 to 100 number for Health, Attack and Defense, and nothing else. Letter grades are a convention invented by third-party save editors and calculators, so a 'B-rank Attack' means only whatever that particular tool decided the cut-offs were.
How many Pals do you need to condense a Pal to 4 stars?
48 duplicates in total: 4 for the first star, then 8, 12 and 24. The 1.0 update cut this from 116, so any guide quoting 116 predates 1.0. At maximum rank the Pal also gains +1 to every work suitability it has, which can push a Mining Lv2 worker over the Lv3 coal threshold.
How many Pal Souls does it take to max a Pal at the Statue of Power?
52 souls per enhancement track and 208 to max all four: 40 Small, 24 Medium, 24 Large and 120 Giant Pal Souls. Rank 20 is +60%. Enhancements are refundable — resetting a fully maxed Pal costs 848,000 Gold Coins, so experimenting is expensive but never permanent.
What is Awakening in Palworld?
A 1.0 system built on level 80 Awakening Pals that spawn at certain World Tree locations carrying World Tree passives. They drop Radiant Gems in nine elemental variants; 50 matching gems plus 10 World Tree Holy Water make one Awakening Crystal at the Ancient Workbench. A crystal permanently raises a matching-element Pal's base Health, Attack and Defense.
Are Awakening Starfruit and Awakening the same thing?
No, and this trips people up constantly. The item once called Awakening Starfruit was renamed in 1.0 to simply Starfruit, which comes in ☆1 to ☆4 grades plus Ripe. It has nothing to do with the Awakening mechanic, Radiant Gems or Awakening Crystals.
What do Implants do in Palworld?
Implants are key items used at the Pal Surgery Table to add or replace a Pal's passive skills. They are not consumed when used, so one Implant: Legend can be applied to Pal after Pal. They come from Bounty Officers, who take bounty currency, and the Arena Merchant, who takes Battle Tickets.
