Crude Oil and the Oil Rigs in Palworld

Updated Verified for Palworld 1.0.3

Crude Oil is not mined — you place a Crude Oil Extractor on an oil field, or use the High-Pressure version which needs no field at all. The three Rayne Syndicate oil rigs are raid targets worth clearing for their golden chests, not for the oil.

🔑
The 5-second version

Oil = Extractor at Tech 50 on an oil field, or High-Pressure Extractor at Tech 51 anywhere. Rigs are at roughly (160–169, -280 to -297), (579–580, -423 to -430) and (-1722 to -1730, -1450 to -1462). Crude Oil makes Plasteel, not Polymer.

Where oil fields are

Oil ponds are confirmed in Mount Obsidian and the Astral Mountains on the Palpagos Islands, and Feybreak carries a large share of the game's nodes. Community map data counts 185 Crude Oil markers across all regions — for comparison, the same dataset counts 1,463 Ore and 520 Coal, so oil fields are genuinely scarce.

⚠️
Neither database publishes oil field coordinates

One database links a map filter but carries no node list, and the other has no oil field location table. Widely circulated per-region node counts (Feybreak 63, Twilight Dunes 31, Outlying Isles 30) come from community write-ups and are unverified. This guide names regions instead of inventing coordinates.

The extractors

⚠️
Extractor recipe: sources disagree

One set of figures gives 125 Pal Metal Ingot and 25 Circuit Board. Another gives 250 Pal Metal Ingot and 50 Circuit Board — exactly double. Budget for the higher figure and you cannot be caught short.

The High-Pressure Extractor is the one that changes your base planning: because it works anywhere, you stop being forced to build on a scarce oil field. It costs 1,000 more power per second and 10 Ancient Civilization Parts, which is a fair trade for placing your oil production next to your Circuit Board line instead of across the map.

Output is 1 Crude Oil per 8,000 workload on the standard Extractor. The work suitability required to operate them is not stated on either database — both show an empty Pal labour section — so that detail is unverified.

Two coordinate sets, both close

Community references print one set of coordinates and our own map extraction prints another, differing by 8–17 units on each axis — close enough that both land you on the same structure. Names also differ between sources: those references use "Barge Oil Rig", "Oil Rig" and "Platform Oil Rig", while the extracted data uses the Rayne Syndicate naming. They also list the lowest rig at level 25, where the extraction says level 30.

Oil rig loot

Every rig has ordinary chests scattered around it plus a single golden chest that spawns in one of several possible locations. The golden chest is the reason to go.

💡
Raid for Cores, extract for oil

A Lv55 or Lv60 golden chest is one of the best Ancient Civilization Core sources outside a raid boss, at 90%+ for 1–5. If what you actually need is Crude Oil, the High-Pressure Extractor produces more with no combat.

The two sources disagree on nearly every quantity, so plan against the larger figure. Plasteel is the important one — it feeds the Plasma Multicutter and the Metal Detector, which in turn gate Sunreach and Feybreak resource gathering.

📌
Plasteel, not Polymer

Polymer does not appear as a Crude Oil product on either database. Polymer comes from High Quality Pal Oil. Guides that route Crude Oil into Circuit Boards have the chain wrong.

What to do next

  • Rush the High-Pressure Extractor at Tech 51 if oil field placement is cramping your base.
  • Clear the Lv55 rig for Ancient Civilization Cores once you can handle laser turrets.
  • Bank the Dog Coins the rigs drop — every chest slot 2 pays them at 25%.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get Crude Oil in Palworld?
You do not mine it. Crude Oil is extracted by placing a Crude Oil Extractor on an oil field inside your base — no pickaxe, no Mining suitability on the node itself. The Extractor unlocks at Technology level 50 and draws 2,000 power per second. The High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor at Tech 51 produces Crude Oil even in areas with no oil field at all.
Where are the oil rigs in Palworld?
There are three. The lowest is in the lake north of the Sealed Realm of the Frozen Wings on Palpagos, the mid-tier one sits southeast of Marsh Island, and the highest is west of the Feybreak Shipwreck on Feybreak island. They run roughly level 25–30, 55 and 60 respectively, and all three are Rayne Syndicate installations defended by turrets.
Is an oil rig raid worth doing?
Yes, for the golden chest rather than the oil. The Lv55 rig's golden chest lists Ancient Civilization Core at 93% for 1–5, and the Lv60 rig's at 90% for 1–5 plus 150–300 Crude Oil. Both also carry Gold Keys and high-tier weapon schematics. As a pure oil source an Extractor beats raiding by a wide margin.
Does Crude Oil make Polymer?
No — that is a common mix-up. No reference database lists Polymer as a Crude Oil product. Crude Oil refines into Plasteel, and Polymer comes from High Quality Pal Oil. Crude Oil's other uses are Flamethrower Fuel, Frag Grenade Mk2, Missile Ammo and Wing Cells.
Which Pals drop Crude Oil?
Maraith, Kikit and Sootseer each drop 1 at a 50% rate, and a single source adds Smokie on the same terms. Human enemies are better: Syndicate Crusher drops 1 at 60%, and most other Syndicate troops at 30%. None of this is a farm — 1 unit at 50% will never keep a Plasteel line running.
