How to farm Leather in Palworld

Updated Verified for Palworld 1.0.3

Mammorest and Mammorest Cryst drop 5–10 Leather at 100%, the highest per-kill yield in the game, and Surfent is the only Pal that produces Leather passively on a Ranch.

🔑
The 5-second version

Hunting? Mammorest, 5–10 per kill. Passive? Surfent on a Ranch, Farming Lv2. Leather weighs 2, so carry capacity is not your limit.

Sell value: sources disagree

One source lists 200 gold; another lists a sell price of 15. The 200 figure appears to be a base item value rather than a merchant payout. No single number is quoted here.

One source's page header states 79 unique Pals drop Leather. Another claims over 100 because it counts Alpha rows as separate entries. The list above is the reconciled unique-Pal set.

Choosing a farm

There are three genuinely different strategies, and the right one depends on what is scarce for you.

GoalMethodMeasurable reason
Most Leather per killHunt Mammorest / Mammorest Cryst5–10 at 100% — double the next tier, and 5–10 HQ Pal Oil on the same corpse
Most Leather per minuteSweep a dense area of 1–3 droppersLow-level Pals die in one hit; kill rate outweighs per-kill size
Most Leather per minute of your timeSurfent RanchZero input after setup; the only passive source that exists
Feybreak-tier alternativeEidrolon / Eidrolon Ignis4–5 at 100%, in an area you may already be farming
💡
Mammorest is the double-dip

Mammorest is simultaneously the best Leather target and the best High Quality Pal Oil target, both at 5–10 and both at 100%. If you need Polymer as well as saddles, there is no reason to farm anything else.

Production rate is not verifiable right now

Community references state a Ranch Pal produces roughly every 50 seconds, with each level giving a chance to produce more. That figure predates version 1.0, and the 1.0 patch adjusted the default ranch production interval. No confirmed post-1.0 interval has been published, so any Leather-per-hour number you see is guesswork.

Surfent's food cost of 3 is middling, so a full Ranch of them will eat through a Berry Plantation. Pair the Ranch with food production before you scale it up.

Saddles are the recurring cost. Every mount you actually want to ride is a fresh Leather bill, and the flying and legendary mounts are the expensive end — which is why a Ranch running in the background beats remembering to go hunting.

What to do next

  • Put four Surfents on a Ranch now; it costs 30 Wood, 20 Stone and 30 Fiber at Technology level 5.
  • Read the full Ranch drop list — 29 Pals produce something, and most players use three of them.
  • Plan Mammorest runs to double as High Quality Pal Oil farming.

Frequently asked questions

Which Pal drops the most Leather in Palworld?
Mammorest and Mammorest Cryst, at 5–10 Leather per kill with a 100% rate — roughly double the next tier. They also drop 5–10 High Quality Pal Oil on the same kill, which makes them the best double-resource target in the game. Eidrolon and Eidrolon Ignis are next at 4–5, followed by Roujay and Flaracle at 3–4.
Which Pal produces Leather on a Ranch?
Surfent, and only Surfent. It needs Farming Lv2 and a food value of 3. It is the sole passive Leather source in the game, so if you want Leather without fighting anything, a Ranch full of Surfents is the entire answer. Condensing them raises the maximum quantity per harvest rather than the cycle speed.
How much does Leather weigh in Palworld?
2 per unit, which is light enough that inventory rarely limits a Leather run. Sources agree on the weight. They disagree on the gold value — one lists 200 and another lists a sell price of 15 — so this guide does not quote a sale figure.
What is Leather used for in Palworld?
More than 50 recipes. The Pelt Armor line, the Heat and Cold Resistant armour variants, and the Metal, Refined Metal and Pal Metal armour lines all need it, and so do over 40 Pal saddles — the Frostallion Saddle alone costs 100 Leather. Leather demand never really stops, because every new mount needs a new saddle.
What is the fastest Leather farm?
It depends on what you are optimising. For Leather per kill, hunt Mammorest at 5–10. For Leather per minute, farm a dense low-level area where several 1–3 droppers spawn together — kill speed beats drop size once the enemies die in one hit. For Leather per minute of your time, put Surfents on a Ranch and walk away.
