No game does all of what Palworld does, so pick by which half you actually liked — the creature collecting, the base automation, or the survival — and the shortlist gets much shorter.

If you liked the creature collecting
Once Human — the closest structural match
Starry Studio's free-to-play survival game uses Deviations: captured supernatural entities that fight alongside you, gather resources and run production at your territory. That "creatures as both companions and labour" design is Palworld's core idea, and almost nothing else replicates it.
Released on PC on 9 July 2024 and on mobile on 23 April 2025. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions launch 25 August 2026 with crossplay, cross-progression and a first-person mode. The catch is structural: seasonal server wipes mean the game is built around restarting.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection — the best-made one
Released 13 March 2026 on Switch 2, PS5, Windows and Xbox Series X|S, with strong reviews. You steal eggs from nests, hatch Monsties and ride them, with a deep gene-inheritance breeding system that outclasses Palworld's. But it is a turn-based JRPG: no survival, no crafting bases, no automation. If you came to Palworld for base building you will find nothing here.
Cassette Beasts — the deepest collection mechanic
Released April 2023 for about 20 USD. Its fusion system lets you combine any two monsters into a hybrid with merged movesets, which is more interesting than anything in Palworld's roster design. Free multiplayer arrived on 20 May 2024 with 8-player shared worlds, PvP, co-op raids and crossplay. It is a 2D turn-based RPG with no survival layer.
Temtem — buy with your eyes open
Crema ended major support in 2024. The final patches removed all microtransactions and shipped the last feature update; the game is now maintenance-only. Servers remain online and are expected to stay up, but there is no offline mode planned, which is the real risk. Crema's follow-up, Temtem: Pioneers, is an explicitly Palworld-adjacent open-world survival spin-off funded on Kickstarter in May 2026 with over 620,000 dollars raised; coverage reports a December 2028 target, which should be treated as an estimate.
If you liked the survival and building
ARK: Survival Ascended
The genre's heavyweight, and the one Palworld is most often accused of borrowing from. Taming is a timed knockout-and-feed process that can run for hours, versus Palworld's thrown sphere. Base building is deeper and more freeform; there is no equivalent to Pals as factory labour, since dinos are mounts and haulers.
Still in Early Access as of August 2026. The paid Lost Colony expansion released 19 December 2025 on Steam, PS5 and Xbox for 29.99 USD. ARK 2 has no release date; Studio Wildcard is targeting a 2027 Early Access launch.
Valheim
The best building physics on this list — structural integrity and material wear make construction a genuine engineering problem. Ten-player co-op, boss-gated and deliberately slow progression. Zero creature capture: tamed boars, wolves and lox are livestock you breed, not a roster you deploy.
Leaves Early Access on 9 September 2026 with the Deep North biome, adding PS5 and Switch 2 alongside existing platforms with full crossplay. Iron Gate has confirmed a price increase at 1.0 without naming the figure.
Enshrouded
Voxel terrain plus free-form building makes it more expressive than Palworld's grid, and it scales to 16-player co-op. Combat is Souls-lite action RPG with skill trees. No creature collecting at all. Over 5 million players during Early Access.
1.0 lands 15 October 2026 on PC and PS5, including PS5 Pro support. Xbox Series X|S slips to 2027.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds
Jagex's survival game, in Early Access since 15 April 2025, with 1.0 on 15 September 2026. Its distinguishing feature is the RuneScape skill system — Woodcutting, Mining, Cooking, Magic all level independently — which gives it a progression spine Palworld lacks. Four-player co-op. No taming loop; monsters are targets and materials. Jagex has said the price rises at full launch.
Jagex's own 1.0 announcement lists PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for Dragonwilds. A third-party listing additionally gives Nintendo Switch 2. We found no first-party confirmation of a Switch 2 version, so treat it as unconfirmed.
If you mostly liked assigning Pals to production lines
Satisfactory
Be honest with yourself about this one. Satisfactory is a first-person factory builder — belts, splitters, trains — with no hunger, no capture, and enemies that are obstacles rather than content. It perfects the optimisation itch that Palworld's base assignments only hint at, and nothing else.
1.0 released 10 September 2024; PS5 and Xbox Series X|S followed on 4 November 2025. Note that console crossplay works between PlayStation and Xbox but not with PC.
The two special cases
Craftopia — Palworld's prototype
Pocketpair's own earlier game, and the literal ancestor of Palworld's genre blend: capture creatures with orbs, automate farms with them, grapple around the world. It has been in Early Access since 4 September 2020 with no 1.0 date, and its recent Steam reviews have turned negative in a way consistent with perceived abandonment.
Several SEO sites state that Pocketpair resumed active Craftopia development in early 2026 and announced a path to 1.0. Pocketpair's own news index shows nothing after 9 September 2025. Treat the revival claim as unverified.
Pokémon Pokopia — not the competitor people think
Released 5 March 2026, Switch 2 exclusive, 69.99 USD, listed by Nintendo under Simulation. You play as a Ditto that has taken human form, restoring a desolate world with Professor Tangrowth by learning moves from partner Pokémon and using them as tools to reshape terrain, farm and build. It reportedly passed 2.2 million units in four days.
It borrows the "Pokémon do the labour" fantasy, but it is cozy and non-violent — closer to Animal Crossing than Palworld. Recommending it as a Palworld substitute on the strength of "Pokémon plus building" misleads people.
Worth watching
- Wild Wild Eden (Shueisha Games / Magnus Games Studio) — open-world survival crafting where you tame beasts with traps rather than capture balls, breed them and assign them to base automation. Steam Early Access targeted for Q1 2027, no exact date.
- Cassette Beasts 2002 (Bytten Studio / Raw Fury) — announced 7 June 2026 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, with 250+ transformable creatures. No release date announced.
